College tutor ‘spanked pupil’

A student sobbed as she told a court how her middle-aged college tutor tried to spank her across his knee, telling her she needed a “master”.

She claimed Terry Carroll, 46, of Stortford Hall Park, Bishops Stortford, Essex, also thrust his hand up her skirt while whispering in her ear that she should call him “Sir”. Carroll denies seven sample counts involving the evening class student and day pupils aged 16 and 17.

The woman, who is in her 20s but cannot be named for legal reasons, told London’s Snaresbrook Crown Court that her torment continued even after Carroll resigned from the London college where he worked.

She said Carroll, who is also accused of spanking a number of younger pupils in his class, told her: “You really are a disgusting girl.”

She told the court that, even after he resigned, Carroll managed to track down her home telephone number and left indecent messages on her answer phone.

He continued to phone her even after she had given a statement to police, allegedly warning her in one call that it was in her “best interests … not to get involved”.

They have variously spoken of the lecturer repeatedly spanking them and making suggestive comments over an 18-month period.

One claimed he would always tell her she was a “bad girl” before subjecting her to frequent chastisement during one-to-one tutorials.

The Crown has claimed Carroll “clearly had a fixation with spanking” and selected “vulnerable victims… knowing they were too frightened to complain.”

The case continues.
